Christmas Report 2018/19
Thank you to all of you, our amazing volunteers, who delivered over 150 meals yesterday, all done by 2pm, in spite of very late nights/early mornings! One of our Angel Deliveroo's found himself with only three meals in a hostel which needed 6 more. Apparently, their planned food deliveries had not materialised over the previous days and some residents were seriously hungry.
We also had our Homeless guests in St. Matthias on New Year’s Day, they benefitted by the extra festive meal.
Many, many thanks to all the "Backroom Boys" and "Front of House Girls" who helped Neighbours In Poplar cook and deliver over 500 meals over the course of Christmas, Boxing and New Year’s Day to homes across E1, E2, E3 and E14. You were fantastic, your kindness and cheer made some people cry and many more smile on a day when, whatever one's Faith we are all more than ever aware of the importance and necessity of Family and Friendship.
A special thanks to our Christmas Day Chef 'Angel' Sonia and her Sous Chef Howard (Dawber) who surpassed themselves. They were ably assisted by Valentino (one of our homeless guests). Boxing Day was covered by Dyane who was also assisted by Sonia. New Year’s Day saw Marion and Thelma take over the kitchen, with John in the background, at their beck and call!
Our Turkey Surgeons, David and Keiran, did wonders with our turkeys. We found ourselves having to provide foods to meet all dietary requirements; vegan, halal, kosher and vegetarian!!!
Special thanks to the 2nd East London Scouts and the Docklands Explorers who were a fantastic help at both Mondays 'spud bashing' and our three deliveries.
The youngest "Deliveroo" was 4 years old and the oldest 89 years...age is no deterrent here in Neighbours in Poplar
We were happy to be joined by our MP, Jim Fitzpatrick and our Mayor, John Biggs as they joined our "Angel Deliveroos" on Christmas Day.
Our young people were not forgotten either over Christmas, Santa came and visited St. Matthias on Saturday afternoon, bringing lots of toys which had been donated by our kind donors.
Some of the children had received no toys over the Christmas Period and parents were delighted to see games being delivered.
Many, many thanks to each and everyone, wishing you all a happy, peaceful and healthy 2019.
A massive thank you also to all our donors who made it all possible.
